The educational program of the Department of Immunology offers comprehensive tuition in immunology to students of medicine, human biology, biochemistry and pharmacy. The courses consist of lectures, seminars, and a wide range of laboratory experiences. In addition, students can take part in journal clubs, conduct of science discussion groups and attend seminars which are regularly offered by guest scientists. There are many opportunities for interaction with faculty members and students from other programs. Slide shows covering the course topics as well as laboratory protocols are available for our students on this website (Studentīs SPECIAL). Everybody has access to our interactive software immuteach, which has been developed together with the departments of immunology in Hamburg and Leipzig.
The minimal requirement for medical students in Greifswald is a 37 h core course; in addition, medical students can follow an advanced course of immunology (45 h).
In human biology, students may choose immunology as their main focus of study. Their immunological curriculum then consists of 660 h of training, two thirds of which take place in the laboratory. A period of full-time research of 8 months duration completes this comprehensive educational program in immunology and culminates in the diploma thesis. All Human biology students follow a core course of immunology (120 h), which consists of lectures, seminars and laboratory rotations.
In biochemistry, a 60 h core course in immunology is the minimal requirement. Students have the option to additionally follow a 300 h advanced course and, to round up their immunological tuition, choose an immunological topic for their diploma thesis.
Students of pharmacy have 15 h of lectures in basic immunology and they are offered an optional advanced course (120 h).

To obtain a PhD degree in immunology, graduate students engage in full-time research for about three years. Their research training program puts a special emphasis on the interaction with faculty members and students from other departments. It offers interdisciplinary workshops, journal clubs, conduct of science discussion groups, laboratory experiences, seminars and program retreats.
