Validation of the cardiovascular risk prediction tool arriba

Project lead: Dr. Aniela Angelow, MPH

In general practitioner's practices, consultations concerning individual cardiovascular risk happen frequently. Various risk assessment instruments are used for this purpose, including the arriba instrument. So far, however, it is unknown how well predicted and actually observed risk correspond. To investigate this question, we used morbidity and mortality data from the population-based Study of Health in Pomerania. In a previous longitudinal analysis, the 10-year overall cardiovascular risk (myocardial infarction or stroke) at baseline was calculated in subjects without a previous cardiovascular event using the arriba instrument. Cardiovascular event rates were determined from follow-up data and measures of calibration (agreement between predicted and observed events) and discrimination (separation between individuals who develop a cardiovascular event and those who do not) were calculated.

Here you can download the arriba instrument to calculate individual cardiovascular risks.
