Development of a counselling tool for colorectal cancer prevention

Project lead: Dr. Julia Truthmann, Dr. Elizabeth Sierocinski

Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in Germany. Screening has been shown to improve the prognosis of colorectal cancer. However, despite an invitation, many people for whom screening is recommended do not make an informed decision for or against taking advantage of it. The aim of the project was to develop a counselling tool for the practice that shows the individual risk of developing and dying from colorectal cancer, as well as the benefits and potential risks of the different screening options to patients.
