Electronically supported doctoral procedure

Since July 1, 2019, all doctoral projects at UMG are managed and processed in the university's own Research Information System (RIS), a protected internal database. Doctoral candidates are obliged to enter all relevant data in RIS before initiating their procedure, or before admission to the doctoral procedure (PhD, MD/PhD, DMD/PhD), and to generate the request for admission or request for initiating the procedure there.

Please keep your information in RIS up to date, especially contact details, until you have completed your doctoral procedure (i.e. when you have received the certificate).

Research Information System (RIS)

The Research Information System is an interdisciplinary instrument of the University of Greifswald for publication and project management and is used in particular for presenting research work (publications, book contributions, third-party funded projects) as well as for internal performance evaluation and process control. The Doctorate module integrated in this research database can only be accessed after personal login under My data > Doctorate (see notes on data protection) and is visible only to the logged-in user.

Registration and user account

If you are employed at the University of Greifswald or University Medicine Greifswald or if you are enrolled for doctoral studies, a user account has already been created for you in RIS. You can log in with your user ID, which you also use to log in to groupware, for example.

For all external doctoral candidates, a separate user account needs to be created. Please contact prommedmed.uni-greifswaldde or mathilda.guerinmed.uni-greifswaldde, giving your full name, to request an account.

After you have logged in to RIS, you will find the Doctorate module in the left menu column under My Data. Please chose between Dr. med., Dr. med. dent. and PhD, MD/PhD, DMD/PhD and enter your data here (mandatory fields are marked with *) before saving your entry by clicking accept. Now you can use the buttons in the upper area to generate the forms Request admission to the doctoral procedure, Request to initiate the doctoral procedure (PhD) and Confirmation of acceptance as a doctoral candidate.

Note on data protection:

In RIS, only data that are necessary for processing your doctoral procedure are collected. Access to the entire doctoral data set is available to the Dean's Office administrators, Ms Mathilda Guerin, Ms Sabina Hassler and Ms Silke Schwarze, as well as the system administrator, Mr Daniel Fredrich. They are obligated to keep the information confidential. Your data is transferred for statistical purposes, in particular for the doctoral statistics of the Federal Statistical Office, in aggregated form only, which does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your person. The general data protection regulations of UMG and the Research Information System apply.
