InkE - Inklusive Exzellenz

This BMBF-funded project aims at improving the recognition of gender aspects in medical care, and specifically in clincal research. Ignorance of gender aspects will lead to reduced quality in treatment and false scientific hypotheses. For example, data analysis is often done on data from predominantly male subjects - but the results are afterwards applied on female patients.

Excellent research is inclusive and includes gender ascpects.

The goal of the InkE project is to initiate a a change in the recognition and reward strucures within clinical research at the UMG:
Different aspects regarding gender-fairness will be considered. In MILA, we focus on computer assisted integration of gender aspects into the research process using semantic annotations. We will integrate information leading to gender awareness already in the data application process at the Data Integration Center. Later on, during the selection of data items from data dictionaries, we will highlight gender relevant aspects. Finally, we strive to change the gender encoding in large, national data sets such as the Core Data Set of the Medical Informatics Initiative.
