Profile

In clinical everyday life and in medical studies large amounts of biomedical data are produced. This data bears an enormous potential for research and evidence-based medicine. However, this data is usually not systematically shared due to several technical, juridical, and scientific reasons. My research focuses on design and improvement of methods and tools for FAIR, safe and secure biomedical data management and on reproducible data usage.
Associated to the MIRACUM consortium of the BMBF funded Medical Informatics Initiative (Medizininformatik-Initiative), I develop an innovative and efficient information and research platform for bioMedical Data eXploration (MeDaX). This includes a graph database to connect heterogeneous biomedical data and semantic information from diverse data sources, concepts and tools for data integration (using extract-transform-load (ETL) processes) and data retrieval, for data provenance, quality control and similarity measures.
I am further interested in standards (COMBINE community) and data integration in mathematical modelling. Data security and data privacy are prioritised by me at all stages of the data life cycle, and I commit myself to the principles of open and responsible science.
