Research

The Institute of Community Medicine comprises three research areas:

basic research in population-based and clinical epidemiology,

conceptual and applied prevention research and

Health services research and health systems research.

The unifying elements of these lines of research are the quantitative and qualitative methods of population-based health research, transdisciplinary and interprofessional cooperation and the joint use of data, research infrastructures and large-scale equipment at the Institute. Together, the six departments cover all key dimensions of population-based health research and create the conditions for an appropriate, comprehensive analysis of the determinants of health and disease in the population and their interdependencies and interactions.

Together, the colleagues at the Institute of Community Medicine create the scientific basis for recognising health risks, challenges and problems in the population as well as in particularly affected groups and for developing innovative concepts for practical solutions.
